SURFACE PREPARATION
- Surfaces must be sound, clean dry (moisture content below 15%) before painting.
- Remove and fungal growth or algae with household bleach (3,5% solution of sodium hypochlorite) thinned 2 parts blech to 1 part water. Allow to react for 3 hours and to dry. Wash vigorously with clean water and a stiff bristle brush (not a wire brush) to remove the algae and to rinse thoroughly.
- At all times allow to dry before any painting or priming
NEW SURFACES - ASPHALT SURFACES
- Once the new asphalt surface is completely dry and cured adhesion test must be done. Apply self-adhesive tape to the asphalt and pull off to see if any asphalt is dislodged or and residue is removed. If this occurs, one coat of Excelsior Surfcon surface conditioner must be applied (according to manufacturers specifications) and allowed to dry. Repeat the test. If there is still product dislodged on the adhesion test contact Excelsior technical support, if not proceed to the next step.
- Apply one coat of Excelsior Tennis court dressing as per “Application” below and allow to dry fully as per specification. For the first coat it is recommended to dilute the product with 10-15% water to aid penetration.
- Follow with a second final coat of Excelsior Tennis court dressing and allow to dry for 18 hours. Please note the product will be hard dry in 24 hours but is only fully cured after 14 days of good weather. It is suggested to allow the full cure period prior to use.
NEW SURFACES - CONCRETE OR CEMENT SCREED SURFACES
- Wash the surface down and remove all loose and excess residue. Allow to dry.
- Prepare an acid wash solution by mixing 1-part hydrochloric acid (pool acid) with 4 parts clean water in a plastic bucket. Always pour acid into water (not wate into acid).Take caution when mixing and using this acid solution to avoid splashing to protect eyes and skin, wear eye protection and gloves impervious to acid attack. Using a mop or watering can (or similar) apply the acid solution onto small workable areas of 25-40m2 and the reaction will take place (bubbling). Do not allow the area to dry out, after 5 minutes rinse the acid solution off using clean water. Repeat until the entire court surface has been acid washed and rinsed. To ensure there is no acid residue, rinse thoroughly another 2 times with clean water fully minimum. Check the floor for any dense or unreacted areas and repeat the process. This acid wash will etch the floor and provide porosity into the substrate for the coating to adhere.
- If there are any dense or non-porous areas these will require special treatment and one coat of Excelsior Surfcon surface conditioner must be applied and allowed to dry for 18 hours

- Apply a 3rd coat in heavy wear areas for best results

- Remove all loose flaking paint back to a firm surface with a wire brush and scraper
- Wash the surface down using sugar soap and a high-pressure water spray. Rinse with clean water to ensure all the sugar soap is removed.
- Allow the surface to dry completely!
- Apply one coat of Excelsior Surfcon surface conditioner to any loose or friable surface, apply two coats if the surface is still friable after the first coat, allow 18 hours between coats and before top-coating. This step is vital for best results and maximum durability of the top-coat
